At P&Z Hearing We Showed the Collective Wisdom
Thanks to all who turned out for the P&Z hearing Wed night (2/22). The overflowing crowd was not only respectful of the process and well spoken, the collective wisdom of the public was impressive.
For those who left early, the Commission heard the rebuttal from the developer, closed the public hearing and then adjourned. They will resume this hearing to deliberate and decide on March 8th.
Proper process now requires that we not contact the P&Z members, and they not seek new information, between now and the resumption of this hearing.
Our work in not done. The developer repeatedly argued that supporting this rezone was the only conclusion the Commission could reach, because zoning must be in compliance with the Comprehensive Plan. That doesn’t make Motor Business zoning the only possible outcome. On March 22 the P&Z will hold a hearing to consider the request in NoSuperWalMart’s petition to change the comprehensive plan back! We will be sifting through the comments and speakers from tonight to develop that case, and will invite you to come hit another home run next month.
